Cyclerides.com Weekly Update
3/21/18

Greetings Riders,

If you missed the newsletter last week with photos and video of the Jet Car and Jet Bike, Click Here to View.

Weather is really getting perfect for riding both around the valley area and up North. Highs in the mid 80's here in the valley and mid 60's up North make for some good day rides. But if you are going to be around here on Thursday night, it will be great weather with a high of 86 for a ride to Westgate for the Cyclerides.com Bike Night at Westgate Entertainment District. Live Music with "The Visitors", Vendors and plenty of places to eat and drink. John Shope will be riding in 2 of his newest creations that he calls "Dirty Tails". I saw them yesterday and they are a very interesting blend of a softail and FXR type of bike. Stop in to see them this Thursday at Bike Night.

In today's world, it is never surprising at what some people will do. I don't really know if it is just downright stupidity, or they just have no respect for other people's things. A lot of us watched this scenario play out at bike night last week. It went something like this:

In 10 seasons of bike night I have never had anything like this happen. I had my motorcycle parked in front of the Cyclerides.com table where we put flyers for riders to look at and take with them. See picture. I didn't see it all happen, but apparently a young woman wanted her boyfriend to take a picture of her sitting on my bike, without asking me for permission. After watching the security video, we see the woman walking up to the bike, throwing a leg over it and grabbing the handlebars. Her momentum with the abrupt landing on the seat pushed the bike completely over on its side and the woman ended up under the table.

I was standing just across Coyote Blvd. when I heard the alarm going off on my bike. I wondered why it would be going off, but just figured someone had bumped into it. About that time I see a crowd of guys around the bike picking it up off the ground. I went over and asked them what had happened and they told me that some girl had sat on it for a picture and tipped it over. I asked where she was and they said she took off East down Coyote Blvd. with her guy. By that time, she was long gone and I didn't get a chance to ask her WTF?

Never ever would I just go up and sit on someone's motorcycle without their permission to do so. Does she go around and sit in people's cars for a picture? I doubt it, but that is me being practical. This girl probably would. In fact, it is entirely possible. I got a Facebook reply from the story that I posted on the Cyclerides.com FB and Kim from AzzKikrs said that some girl came up and got into their truck without asking as well. Could have been the same person. Regardless what her motivation was for getting on my bike, I wish that I would have had the chance to ask her that question and impress upon her what damage that it did and the costs that are associated with her actions. We have her on video and will be looking for her in the future. If you know who it was, please let me know.

The damage done was a bent and damaged chrome brake lever, damage to the rubber on the fairing of the Road Glide, slight paint scratch and crack on fairing there as well, and major paint damage to the right saddlebag that will need to be taken off and completely repainted. Altogether I would expect at least $400-$500 to fix everything.

I am not the kind of person that sees the glass half empty, so all in all I realize that I was very fortunate that it didn't do any more damage than it did. The fairing could have easily gotten shattered on both sides which would have been way more costly. Hopefully the girl learned a lesson to not mess with other people's stuff. But since she didn't get caught, who knows? They could still be laughing about it. I hope she did. But if not, Karma has a way to even things out.

If you see someone starting to do something stupid like this to someone else's bike, PLEASE ask them if they have permission to do so.

April 11 – 15 at WestWorld
Arizona Bike Week 2018. It’s Arizona Bike Week’s 22nd annual celebration of the 2 wheel lifestyle.  So as a tribute to all those twos they’ve dubbed it their “Deuces Wild” rally!  This year’s concert lineup is tremendous, with Collective Soul, Chevelle, Shinedown and ZZ TOP!!

Check out the event schedule on the ABW website: http://www.azbikeweek.com/. It looks like a trip to biker Disneyland!  It’ll be tricky to see and do everything each day, so plan your time carefully.  If you miss one stunt show, you can catch the next but remember there are THREE different shows and you’ll definitely want to see them all!

The HandleBar Saloon made its first appearance at Arizona Bike Week in 2002.  Since then, it’s evolved into being THE place to meet up with friends when you’re ready to kick back and chill with some great music, grub and a couple cold ones. It’s gotten to be such a popular hangout that it was getting pretty overcrowded.  So this year they’ve tripled the size, with seating for over 300! From the first band each day, to the post-concert adult games and entertainment at the after-hours parties, there’s ALWAYS something going on in the HandleBar Saloon!

An event pass to all days, all shows, vendors and CONCERTS is just $63!! This is the best deal you’re ever going find for all the entertainment and attractions that ABW provides. And just to sweeten the pot, for anyone who wants to skip the concerts but still see all the other shows, vendors and flat track races, Sunday April 15 is a FREE admission day!!
