Cyclerides.com Weekly Update

Greetings Riders,

If you missed the newsletter last week with the story of this season's bike night dates, Click Here to View.

This week I would like to start by wishing my Dad a Happy 93rd Birthday yesterday. I am truly blessed to still have him with us. It amazes me every time I am with him to see how well he is doing both physically and mentally. We have come a long way since the time that I was 10 years old and I thought that people in their 60's were really old. Now at 61, it is hard to imagine what tacking on another 32 years would be like. But after being spending time with him and seeing how active he is, and how thankful he is for his health and family, it encourages me that getting old isn't all that bad. Click Here for a picture of us today.

For his birthday I took him to the restaurant at Deer Valley Airport for breakfast. Being an old pilot, he really enjoys watching all of the action of the planes taking off and landing. I then took him to my hangar to see some of the latest additions and then to Martin Auto Museum, a place that I want to share with all of you. As I have said in the past, I always like to share destinations and activities that we can all enjoy.

With the weather being a little cool up North, it is nice to have some fun diversions to ride to in the Valley area. One place that I found that is great for a short visit is the Martin Auto Museum, the largest auto museum in Phoenix, located at 17641 N. Black Canyon Hwy. in Phoenix. This is between Bell Rd. and Union Hills Rd. just off the frontage rd. on the East side of I-17. See Map.

To give you a better understanding of the museum, the following is taken from their brochure:
We are curators of automobile history from past to present, and feature an incredible selection of cars that have traveled the great American highways. Mel Martin, founder and namesake of the Martin Auto Museum, works tirelessly to update the collection with a diversity of automobiles and memorabilia that will delight even the most discerning enthusiasts. The Museum is home to over 65 vehicles and offers the opportunity to trace automotive history from its beginnings.

We proudly display a variety of vehicles from every era, beginning with a replica of a first patented gasoline automobile and presenting fine examples of automotive classics and muscle cars. America's history is firmly rooted in the invention and evolution of the automobile. Our goal is to protect and preserve these fine automobiles for the enjoyment of future generations, and to instill in our youth, the joy and wonder that embodies the American automotive dream.

The collection is continuously evolving, and each visit offers new opportunities to see more beautifully restored vehicles. Showcase cars are displayed throughout the museum. These rare, unique vehicles, are artistic masterpieces, created by esteemed artists from a bygone era.

I have seen many collections in the last several years and this one is very interesting as it does not focus on one particular era or group of cars. There is a wide assortment of classic cars and memorabilia that will keep you interested throughout. Each car has an information sheet on it that will give you the details. Some of the highlights are a $2,000,000 1965 Shelby Cobra from Shelby's personal collection with only 6 original miles on it, a beautiful 1930 Duesenberg Boattail, An Auburn Boattail and a 1962 Impala racing edition with a 409 among many other great cars. You will not be disappointed.

The museum is open Tuesday - Saturday, 10am - 5pm. The cost is a $10 donation. Go to www.martinautomuseum.com for more information. You can also rent the place out for your own private event or party.
